About the brand
French fashion house Carven was founded by Marie-Louise Carven in Paris in 1945. Originally known for elegant, feminine couture, the house gradually expanded into accessories and launched its jewellery line in 1968.
Carven costume jewellery is known for its French elegance and wonderfully decorative designs, often featuring gold-tone metal, enamel, crystals, faux pearls and colourful glass stones. Floral, animal and abstract motifs are particularly characteristic of the vintage pieces.
The jewellery became part of Carven's wider expansion during the 1960s and 1970s, when the house also developed accessories, menswear and international licensing.
