About the brand
Jean-Louis Scherrer was a premier French fashion designer whose elegant, opulent, and highly structured designs epitomised Parisian haute couture during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
He joined the house of Christian Dior in 1955, working closely alongside a young Yves Saint Laurent.
He launched his namesake label in 1962 at 182 Rue du
Faubourg Saint-Honore, later moving to the prestigious Avenue Montaigne.
He became famous for his dramatic evening gowns, animal prints, shoulder pads, and fluid cocktail dresses infused with Asian and Middle Eastern inspirations.
Famous Clientelle: His luxurious garments dressed prominent global icons, including former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, and Queen Noor of Jordan.
The fashion house eventually ceased its haute couture operations in 1992, but his vintage pieces and classic fragrances remain highly collectible items today.
